NASA Astronaut and Engineer Gregory Chamitoff, Ph.D., who has logged more than 198 days in space, will speak to students at the Buchanan Educational Center schools of Garfield Elementary, Alta Sierra Intermediate and Buchanan High on Friday, August. 26.

After joining Mission Operations at the Johnson Space Center in 1995, Dr. Chamitoff was selected as a NASA Astronaut Candidate in 1998. In 2002, he was a crewmember on the NEEMO-3 Mission (NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations), and lived and worked on the Aquarius undersea research habitat for nine days. In 2008, Chamitoff served as the Flight Engineer and Science Officer on a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station during Expeditions 17 and 18.

Most recently, Dr. Chamitoff served as a Mission Specialist on the last flight of Space Shuttle Endeavour, STS-134 (May 16-June 1, 2011). On his second of two spacewalks during the mission, the International Space Station assembly was completed and marked the final spacewalk of the Space Shuttle Program.
