WHAT: As one of only a handful of California schools selected as a 2011 Schools to Watch, Granite Ridge Intermediate School will host a community celebration today. The award is sponsored by the California Middle Grades Alliance, which includes the California League of Middle Schools, California Department of Education, and other statewide educational organizations.

The school received recognition as a School to Watch for implementing replicable practices focused on academic excellence, responsiveness to the developmental needs of young adolescents; fair and equitable education for all students; and organizational processes and procedures that foster and sustain academic growth. Granite Ridge opened in 2007 and was first eligible to apply for the Schools to Watch honor in 2011. Clovis Unified is now the only school in the state with every one of its intermediate schools designated a School to Watch.
