Lincoln Elementary students welcome military pen pal recently returned from Iraq
Fresno-based members of the Army National Guard serving in Iraq had their Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays brightened by the writing and artistic efforts of students from Clovis Unified’s Lincoln Elementary School. Over the 2004-2005 school year students at the school penned hundreds of cards and letters, which were then sent to the 350 members of the 1106th AVCRAD serving in Iraq. The voluntary letter-writing campaign was facilitated through the school’s library media center, and touched the lives of service personnel overseas.
As a thank you for their efforts, First Sergeant Brian Gaines, of the 1106th AVCRAD, will visit the school Friday, Dec. 22 to present an American Flag flown during the unit’s time in Iraq. Students will be surprised to see their long-distance pen pal, as the visit has been kept a secret by the school administration.
WHEN: Friday, December 22
8:20 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
WHERE: Lincoln Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room
774 E. Alluvial, Fresno
Members of the media interested in attending the event please check in at the school’s administration office before proceeding to the multi-purpose room.
